Position: full sun Soil: moist, well-drained, fertile soil Rate of growth: fast-growing Flowering period: March to April Hardiness: fully hardy ‘Kursar’ is a beautiful small deciduous tree of spreading habit with masses of deep pink single flowers between March and April. Leaves are coppery when young, turning deep orange in autumn. Introduced by plant collector and gardener Collingwood ‘Cherry’ Ingram (b.1880 – d.1981). Garden care: Plant ‘Kursar’ as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). Choose a sheltered spot to protect emerging blossom. Incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Lightly prune in summer to retain the shape and cut back any dead, diseased or crossing branches.
