Red flowers in summer and autumn. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: fast-growing Flowering period: July to September Hardiness: half hardy (must have winter protection) This exotic-looking, fast-growing climber is ideal for adding colour to a conservatory – or very sheltered garden. It has the reddest flowers of all the passifloras, although the colour often has a hint of pink, which becomes more noticeable as they age. Growing up to 12cm in diameter, the blooms are long-lasting, and they form in pendent clusters from midsummer to autumn. As they fade, small (inedible) green fruits start to appear, adding further to the display. Garden care: Water freely during the growing season, but cut back a little in winter. Keep frost free in winter (they prefer temperatures no lower than 10°C) and remove dead, misplaced or overcrowded stems in spring.
